Малоконтрастный текстовой шрифт с историческим оттенком. Гарнитура разработана в словолитном заведении Бертгольд (С. Петербург) около 1910 на основе рисунков шрифта Sorbonne, 1905 (H. Berthold, Berlin), близкого к шрифту Cheltenham фирмы American Type Founders, 1896 (дизайнеры Бертрам Гудхью, Моррис Бентон), а также на основе русских шрифтов середины XVIII века. Цифровая версия создана в Отделе наборных шрифтов НПО Полиграфмаш в 1989 году Любовью Кузнецовой. Корректировка и расширение гарнитуры проводилось в компании ПараТайп в начале 2000-х. Переработанная версия гарнитуры, в которую было добавлено жирное курсивное начертание, выпущена в 2009 году. В 2013 году выпущено расширенное нормальное начертание, в которое добавлены капительные знаки. Корректировки и расширения знакового комплекта выполнены Владимиром Ефимовым.
